Old Long Syne, por James Watson (1711) Versos originales en escocés Traducción al español desde la versión escocesa

Should Old Acquaintance be forgot,
and never thought upon;
The flames of Love extinguished,
and fully past and gone:
Is thy sweet Heart now grown so cold,
that loving Breast of thine;
That thou canst never once reflect
on Old long syne.

CHORUS:
On Old long syne my Jo,
in Old long syne,
That thou canst never once reflect,
on Old long syne.

My Heart is ravisht with delight,
when thee I think upon;
All Grief and Sorrow takes the flight,
and speedily is gone;
The bright resemblance of thy Face,
so fills this, Heart of mine;
That Force nor Fate can me displease,
for Old long syne.

CHORUS

Since thoughts of thee doth banish grief,
when from thee I am gone;
will not thy presence yield relief,
to this sad Heart of mine:
Why doth thy presence me defeat,
with excellence divine?
Especially when I reflect
on Old long syne

Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
and never brought to mind ?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
and auld lang syne* ?

CHORUS:
For auld lang syne, my jo (or my dear),
for auld lang syne,
we’ll tak a cup o’ kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.

We twa hae run about the braes,
and pu’d the gowans fine ;
But we’ve wander’d mony a weary fit,
sin auld lang syne.

CHORUS

We twa hae paidl’d i' the burn,
frae morning sun till dine ;
But seas between us braid hae roar’d
sin auld lang syne.

CHORUS

And there’s a hand, my trusty fiere !
and gie's a hand o’ thine !
And we’ll tak a right gude-willy waught,
for auld lang syne.

¿Deberían olvidarse las viejas amistades
y nunca recordarse?
¿Deberían olvidarse las viejas amistades
y los viejos tiempos?

CORO:

CORO

Los dos hemos vadeado la corriente
desde el mediodía hasta la cena,
pero anchos mares han rugido entre nosotros
desde los viejos tiempos.

CORO

Y he aquí una mano, mi fiel amigo,
y danos una de tus manos,
y ¡echemos un cordial trago de cerveza
por los viejos tiempos!.

WHAT HAPPENED TO CHRITMAS?

PEOPLE OFTEN COMPLAIN THAT cHRISTMAS HAS BECOME COMMERCIALIDED and lost all its charm. We are all obsessing about buying perfect gifts for our families and friends instead of enjoying the smell of cinnamon (canela) cookies spreading around the house. Of course, we must buy them first-nobody bakes anymore.

I remember that when I was little we spent every Christmas at my grandmother's place - surrounded by tons of food and the sound of carols. Presents were always the same - a bag of nuts and mandarins accompanied by a kinder surprise egg and a pair of socks. Thank god for my parents who always had something a little bit special for me, like a perfumed diary with a lock on it or a kids' cooking set. Simple and perfect. This year I wanted a designer watch and perfumes. I specifically pointed out which ones I wanted, so there wouldn't be a big surprise there. Calculated and sad.

An I killing Christmas or is it a natual transition? What will Christmas look like in 20 years from now? Will we be taking loans in order to buy our childern new technological devices? Will we be booking expensive restaurants two months in advance because nobody will know how to cook a turkey?

I understand that the times change and we move forward but why is tradition less and less important in our lives? We all have happy memories of the christmas time, yet we do nothing to bring that charm back to our lives, even without the grandma running around the kitchen and trying to cook the 50 kilos of meet for 10 people on time.

CAROLS (VILLANCICOS)

Rudolph teh red-nosed reindeer http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0byH9h1ClBY

You know Dasher and Dancer and Prancer and Vixen,
Comet and Cupid and Donner and Blitzen.,
But do you recall?
The most famous reindeer of all?

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer (reindeer)
Had a very shiny nose (like a lightbulb)
And if you ever saw it (saw it)
You would even say it glows (like a flashlight)
And all of the other reindeer (reindeer)
Used to laugh and call him names (like pinochio)
They never let poor Rudolph (Rudolph)
Join in any reindeer games( like monopoly)

Then one foggy Christmas Eve,
Santa came to say, (ho ho ho)
Rudolph with your nose so bright,
Won't you guide my sleigh tonight?

Then all the reindeer loved him,(loved him)
And they shouted out with glee, (yippie)
Rudolph the red-nose Reindeer (reindeer)
You'll go down in history (like George Washington)

Silent night

Silent night, Holy night
All is calm, all is bright
'Round yon virgin , mother and child
Holy infant so, tender and mild
Sleep in heavenly peace,
Sleep in heavenly peace.

Silent night, Holy night
Shepherds quake, at the sight
Glories stream from heaven afar
Heavenly, hosts sing Hallelujah.
Christ the Savior is born,
Christ the Savior is born.

Silent night, Holy night
Son of God, love's pure light
Radiant beams from thy holy face
With the dawn of redeeming grace,
Jesus, Lord at thy birth
Jesus, Lord at thy birth.

CONDITIONALS

If you saw it you would even say it glows

If Christmas were not a deepler religious holidays I'd celebrate better

If people didn't spend so much in Christmas they would have more money for the rest of the year, and January wouldn't be so difficult to get to the end of the month

make end meet == llegar a fin de mes
